Sunday December 23rd, 2012
Hurray for another day of church! It’s always nice when
things don’t interfere with my religious time. That’s a cultural difference
right there as I’m sure you’ve noticed. America normally doesn’t schedule
things on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening since those are usually set aside
for Christianity. In Taiwan that is not the case due to obvious reasons that
they are predominately Buddhist and don’t have time specifically set aside for
religion (by that I mean the Sunday morning for Christ).
Before going home I grabbed a salad lunch at 7-Eleven along
with papaya for fruit intake. Oh, the salad was nasty. It desperately need
sauce or different types of veggies. Then the papaya was disgusting as my luck
with finding sour papaya hasn’t changed. The whole meal was eaten with my best
attempt at keeping a straight face…that didn’t always succeed.
A couple of hours at home were spent studying for tomorrow’s
final exam (Eeek!) and getting ready for the Rotary Christmas party later that
night. I was decked out in the most festive things I had…the extend being a
cheap reindeer antler headband I bought in Taiwan. XD Oh well, I didn’t possess
anything else Christmasy except a holiday smile. ;)
The party’s Christmas title was also primarily limited to
just passing out Santa hats or reindeer antlers. It had an extensive buffet of
international dishes, mandatory student performances and a dance party. Each
Rotary student group (less than ten people in each and seven groups total) was required
to do something of some sort for the party. Most sang Christmas songs but one
group had a hilariously true but exaggerated skit about the first day in
Taiwan. It had many things that shocked new arriving students, for example the
transportation rules/standards, bathrooms, school, etc. The YEP audience was
found nodding in agreement or laughing at how true parts of it were. Enough of
that, picture time!
Group 1/my group! We sang "Baby it's cold outside" (the boys are to the left and out of the picture for the male part of the song). This picture was caught mid-expression as we sang "Baby it's Co *picture snap* ld outside!" That explains the faces. XD
Another group singing more Christmas songs
Oh look! Time for more Christmas songs! XD Yeah, majority of groups just sang whatever.

Wrapping up the night, we had a beloved dance party in which
I could let loose and work off all the delicious food at the party like the
crème brule (gosh that stuff is fantastic!). Though having the jingle belt from
the Halloween party would’ve been twice as better. That’s it! Someone should
totally make a Christmas reindeer bell belly dancing sash then shake it like a
polaroid picture to jingle bells. XD
Oh! I should mention that my district counselor, Uncle
Kaiser, came by and gave a surprise Christmas gift. How sweet is that? It’s big
and very puffy feeling but I shan’t open it until Christmas day in the holiday
spirit. I don’t know if I mentioned this already but my counselor in Texas sent
me a gift as well that arrived a week ago. Again, it will remain wrapped until
the 25th. ;) Along with gifts from my American parents, I’m so
thankful for the kindness and anticipate for Tuesday! :D
