Bowling Attempt...Failed!

Sunday December 2nd, 2012

Sadly no church today. I had a previous engagement that clashed with service. That’s when you pull out Christian devotionals and music to make-up for it. ;)

The mentioned engagement involved practice for an upcoming Rotary bowling event. I thought the activity was for grins and giggles but it turns out it’s a competition OF DOOM! Ok, not doom, but the competition part was a little daunting since I’m not good at bowling nor have I played it in two years. And just for reference, that last time was fooling around with friends like throwing the ball between your legs with the gutter protectors up. So…yeah…practice was needed.

It turns out Yavanna (remember her? My temporary host family sister?) played bowling seriously on a high school team. She knew her stuff! So she happily offered to teach me a bit before the competition. Unfortunately Xiao Di (her baby boy) got a nasty cough and she stayed home taking care of him. Poor little guy. I hope the wee darling gets better.

Bowling wasn’t cancelled though. Allen and Pi Nan came, making us a group of three. We played two games total. The first…an absolute fail for me. The second was better as I learned from the first. Both Allen and Pi Nan were pretty good, Allen even knowing how to throw a curve ball. For the two games it was Pi Nan first place, Allen second and I always last. I wouldn’t have it any other way because it was fun and educational. ^_^ Apparently the Taiwanese came up with the ‘UFO ball,’ which is a rapidly rotating ball (more side to side rotating I think) still going in a straight line. Haven’t seen one but it sounds cool. :)

Cute bowling balls. I think it proves how big basketball is in Taiwan so much so that it invades other sports XD

A fun round of air hockey with Allen and a brother vs. brother foosball took place before a snack. Pi Nan was the victor in an intense, close match. But yeah, the snack. More like a meal in my opinion. It began with sausage on a stick accompanied with garlic. Allen told me to unpeel the garlic and try it. This garlic mind you was an inch long with a pumpkin seed shape…or a teardrop if you prefer. :P But I was stupid enough to think that Allen meant to eat it whole. Bad, baaaaaad move. Learn from my mistake, never EVER eat garlic whole. What I was supposed to do was to take a small bite of it along with a bite of sausage. After that unpleasant surge of a garlic, I was done with that stuff. X/ The sausage alone was tasty enough. :)

The second portion of the ‘snack’ was a bowl of oyster noodle thing. Not sure it’s name but it follows those lines. And mmmmm it was deeeeeelicious! The thick broth/sauce and noodle combo was fantastic. Dude that is definitely something I want again! The shop’s environment was extremely crowded though and had fans blowing like the dickens! Welcome to a Taiwanese bustling food shop. ;D

The day was finished with a stop to the ‘Wellcome’ store near my house. There was need to run an errand but along the way I found this. TEXAS! HOWDY MY LOVE! Why you are here, that boggles my mind why, especially when one bag also has the Canadian flag. But hey, I like the bag automatically because of the Lone Star flag. This store is so much fun to explore! Who knows what I’ll find next time. ;)

OH! When watching ‘Thor’ on HBO I noticed something during the metal destroyer thing scene. He vandalized a 7-Eleven. Yes! There’s a 7-Eleven in Thor! Who knew? I do, that’s who! XD

Mother and father came in my room, asked how today was then went into Chinese wisdom advice. From what I could translate, they said I study very seriously but should be sure to enjoy the short life given to us. Not sure where that came from or if I understood correctly but yeah it’s good advice. So be sure to listen to it as well kids. :P

Andrea signing out!
